If you've ever heard the expression "so easy even your grandma could do it," chances are you can think of emerging technology and the struggles that some grandparents or older people may have with new products. A new Apple Inc product is getting the easy enough for grandma tag from a top tech reviewer.
MKBHD Reviews MacBook Neo
The first sub-$1,000 dedicated budget laptop from Apple is here, and it's getting strong reviews. Here's what tech reviewer MKBHD, aka Marques Brownlee, had to say about the Neo and his ratings for various users.
In a video review, MKBHD admits that the Neo is "even better than I expected."
The tech reviewer says the MacBook Neo is only $600, but is incredibly capable and compelling at that price.
Among the praise the reviewer gives the Neo, the reviewer says the new laptop is "potentially Apple's most disruptive product in the last 10+ years."
Don't Miss:
MKBHD says there is nothing fundamentally new or anything consumers haven't seen from MacBooks before in the Neo.
"This combination of things that is about to make the entire Windows and Chromebook laptop industry very nervous," MKBHD says.
The review highlights how many of the Apple MacBook features are included in this cheaper model, which is great for many types of consumers, noting that around 90% of the device is the same machine as MacBooks but for hundreds of dollars less.
"Easiest laptop for Apple to make."
MKBHD also provides grades for different consumer groups based on the price, usability and features. With a price point of $600, the laptop does not come with the same memory or gaming capabilities of other laptops, hurting some of the ratings.

The Neo scores highly across many consumer groups in the reviewer's rating system, including the highest mark for students.
"This laptop was literally made for you."
MKBHD also praises the word processing, email and video conferencing capabilities, which make the laptop great for writers. The cheaper Apple laptop scores lower for photographers due to its display and performance, and for coders due to its memory constraints.
The worst rating comes for gamers based on the small display and limited RAM, making the Neo only really good to play casual games on.
Apple Targets Students, Is Grandma Next?
An A rating for Grandma in MKBHD's review could create a new target market for Apple.
The new, more affordable laptop from Apple is likely geared towards students, with a starting price of $599, or $499 for education customers.

Tech investor Gene Munster highlighted the target market of students in a recent video and said the Neo could help the company get higher market share for students among laptop users.
"The new $AAPL MacBook Neo should add 0.5% to overall revenue for the next year," Munster said.
Munster said the new laptop likely "won't impact margins," but will increase overall revenue and expand Apple's reach in the education market.
The investor estimated that the Neo could add $2 billion in annual revenue for Apple's Mac segment. That segment had revenue of $34 billion in fiscal 2025. The increased total would represent around 6% growth from the Neo.
Munster said the target market for the Neo, which was initially just students, could be around 25 million in the U.S. alone. That market currently relies on cheaper Chromebooks but could switch to Apple products if they were more affordable.
The number of older people in the U.S. and globally also probably relies on Chromebooks, tablets, or their smartphones. Some of these people may not have any Apple products and the Neo could serve as the introductory product into the Apple ecosystem.
