Gemini Go rolling out to replace Google Assistant on Android Go phones

1 day ago 2 Back

The deprecation of Google Assistant continues today with Gemini Go for Android Go devices that have entry-level specs.

This “streamlined version of Gemini” is aimed at Android Go devices with 2GB of RAM or more. You can launch by long-pressing the Home button or Power key. Use cases include:

  • Stay connected: Ask Gemini to call or send text messages to your contacts.
  • Find local info: Check the drive time to work, or ask more complex questions like, “Help me find a ramen restaurant open for lunch on Tuesday with an EV charger nearby.”
  • Plan your day: Ask Gemini to set an alarm or create a calendar event.
  • Upload files: Upload docs, photos, and other files to add more context to your chats.
  • Play media: Ask Gemini to play music. Try asking by mood or activity, like “Play pop party jams!” or “Play quiet acoustic songs for a dinner party.”

A more conversational experience is touted, but Google did not share any screenshots today.

It replaces Assistant Go, providing a new conversational experience right on your phone.

On Android Go, “Gemini is available as part of the Google Search app.” Gemini Go is gradually rolling out as an update to what should be Google Go

Google today also offers Gmail Go and Maps Go.
